Carrie Ann’s Top 6 Favorite Books – For Now

Oh my. You have NO idea how hard this is. I’ve read over 5000 books, and I can’t chose. But these are the ones that came to mind at the time I wrote this. Be warned, in ten minutes these are subject to change. And no, I won’t say my own book LOL.

Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows
– J.K. Rowling

Harry Potter is known as the series that got the world reading. Now, at this point I already read on my own. However, because of Harry Potter, I actually started reading on my own again. School books took over my life and I didn’t want to read, but because of the boy in glasses and his friends I went back to reading what I wanted – not what I was forced. Now it took me awhile to find a genre I liked. I was told Romance was not a genre for a smart person and I could not read it. *snark*

The Deathly Hallows is a poignant end to an amazing series. I cried. Okay, I sobbed. I laughed. I clapped and cheered. I loved it.

Coming Undone – Lauren Dane

If I could have chosen like 12 of Lauren’s books I would have. But I wanted to be “diverse”. LOL Lauren creates such in depth and REAL characters, that I feel as though I could live next to the Browns or live in Petal, Georgia with the Chase Brothers. (Oh yea, I love that series too) Brody is one of my favorite alpha males of all time. He is caring, strong and takes no crap from anyone. Plus he has tattoos. Yum. I love books with children and the little girl was fantastic. The story was heartfelt and totally sucked me in.  I could have don’t without Raven, but I know people out there love her. Hence her book coming out. I’ll read it because I love the world. And Lauren is so good that I know I’ll love Raven by the end.

Slave to Sensation – Nalini Singh

I couldn’t decide what Nalini book I wanted to choose. I could have gone with Archangel’s Consort, because the colors and sensualities of the Angel world blows my mind. But I decided to go with the first book I read of hers. This world was not your average shifter tale, but created a whole Psy world that scared me, yet made me want more. Lucas is to die for. I love sexy Alpha shifters and he fits the bill and then some. Her plotting is so fantastic, that I am in awe of Nalini’s Talent.

Plus this book created a whole new world for me. What more could I need?

The Reckoning – Kelley Armstrong

This is a YA book and I LOVED it.  The third in the trilogy, I chose it because it had the scene us readers waited for throughout THREE books. I won’t tell you what it is, but those of you who read it know what I mean. I love Derek. This is the only series where I go back on the 1st and 15th of every month to the blog to find a new hidden scene from Derek’s POV. I am that in love with the guy. He is protective and just learning HOW to be alpha. This was also one of the ONLY books that I felt as though I WAS the character, rather than a third party. Chloe you rock!

Lover Awakened – JR Ward

I had to put my BDB boys in here. Now I usually can’t chose in a series, and I didn’t chose the book, as I love them all. But rather, I chose Z. The quintessential tortured hero. I don’t really have much to say. If you’ve read Ward’s books, then you know how deep you get into their world. How once you read the book you suddenly feel the urge to drink hard liquor, listen to rap and wear shitkickers. I’m not that girl, but I would totally date that guy. Bella and Z are so different from each other they had to be perfect for each other. Again, I cried. This seems  to be a prerequisite for me. But they both changed so much during it that I grew with them. Oh, and I got a sneak of Blay and Quinn in it – so I’m very happy. :-)

Acheron – Sherrilyn Kenyon

I think why I liked this book so much was because I got the first 250 pages or so of an intricate history tale that broke my heart. Sherrilyn talked about the tall man with black  or green hair and beautiful pools of colorful eyes in like the second book and wove his tale throughout until you got to his. Her world building is some  of the most complex I have ever seen. I love it. It makes me think. Acheron is my hero. And Sherrilyn surprised me with his mate and I loved that she did. The series isn’t over and its getting  more complicated but I am a total fan.

So there it is. Six books that are my favorites at this moment. I’ve read each of these at least ten times. I know if you ask me tomorrow some may move down and new ones emerge. However the reasons I love them will never change. As you can tell I have eclectic taste, but I wouldn’t change it.

Thank you so much for letting me give you some of my favorites! It is my dream that one day my book may be a fav to someone else. So tell me, what are some of your favorites?

The one I agree with completely is Z’s book. If anyone can read that book and not sob like their heart is broken…Just saying,

The book in a few lines:
“I was dead until you found me, though I breathed. I was sightless, though I could see. And then you came…and I was awakened.”
    ― J.R. Ward, Lover Awakened

I also would have Acheron’s book on my top six list.

My next books would be…in no certain order (there is no way I could number them)

    Dark Slayer by Christine Feehan

Incubus Dreams by Laurell K. Hamilton

The Vampire Lestat by Anne Rice

    Night Game by Christine Feehan

They make the top six because I have read them so many times I can’t even count.

    • Carrie Ann Ryan says:

I’ve read all of those! Yes, my choices were random, I wanted 1 of each of different types. Though I have SOOO many more books out there!

  2. Tamara Hoffa says:

Acheron would be on my list too. But, as you said, I don’t think I could pick just 6 books, 6 – series… Darkhunters, Carpathians, Love at Stake, Argeneau vampires,Sons of Destiny, and the Breeds still not enough! I could go on and on, one stand alone book I have read numerous times, Men in Kilts by Katie MacAllister, a “go to” book when I want a smile

    • Carrie Ann Ryan says:

Yep, I’m with you! Just too many to decide, but it’s still fun to think about WHY you like them.

  3. Zen says:

Harry Potter would be on my list, though I’d go with the Prisoner of Azkaban instead. Other books would be “A Thousand Splendid Suns” by Khaled Al Hosseini; “Twenties Girl” by Sophie Kinsella; “Ender’s Game” by Orson Scott Card; “The Solitaire Mystery” by Jostein Gaarder; “The Five People You Meet in Heaven” by Mitch Albom; and “Things My Girlfriend and I Argued About” by Mil Millington.

  4. Kary Rader says:

Quite a testament from the woman who’s read so many! I have to say I’ve read none of those. I know it’s like hearing someone’s never seen Gone with the Wind (which BTW is one of my six)

Other Best Book EVAHs — Lord of the Rings, Hunger Games, Harry Potter, Shadow Fever, Outlander

Zen – I have to say Ender’s Game was pretty damn amazing too!

  5. julie says:

i couldnt pick 6, because there were books i read in the 80s like johanna lindsay and jude devereaux , some which have stood the test of time. then theres different genre. i seem to go from westerns to historical romance then all the dragons, shifters and immortals came out, even some contemporary, i quite liked.

  6. Amiee R says:
